Yoga Teacher Training for Real Bodies

I didn’t come to Yoga feeling confident. I came feeling intimidated, unseen and like I didn’t fit in. I would go to Yoga studios and place my mat in the far back corner, so that I didn’t draw attention to myself.

Even on my own Yoga Teacher Training Course in 2014, I carried the belief that maybe Yoga (or teaching it), wasn’t really meant for people like me.

Despite what I was bombarded with on social media, Yoga changed my life, not because it made me more “Yoga shaped”, but because it taught me how to listen, how to feel and how to be in my body with more honesty and compassion.

When I began teaching in 2014, I made a promise that:

No one would ever leave my class feeling unseen, judged or not “Yoga enough”.

Grounded Hatha is the training I wish had existed when I first started.

What to expect

An inclusive Yoga Teacher Training course for those who love Yoga but never felt like they quite “fit” the Yoga Body stereotype and who want to support their peers in their everyday lives.

A breath-led Hatha Yoga Teacher Training designed for real bodies, real lives and real-world teaching.

Flexible at home study. 2 In-person weekends. 1 Immersion Retreat.

Grounded Hatha is for teachers who want to do things differently.

How the Training Works

Designed with busy, real-life people in mind, the course blends flexible in-home learning (live and recorded sessions) with 2 in-person weekends at a Spa Hotel and a final 3 night immersion Retreat, spread over 6 months.

❋ Hybrid Learning

In this training, the breath governs the practice and you’ll learn how to create classes that are grounding, accessible and well-paced for your students. Stepping away from the current wave of aesthetic alignment, this course will teach you the skills that transform lives, one breath at a time.

❋ Breath-led Hatha Yoga

At the heart of this training is a simple belief: Yoga should give people more agency in their bodies, not take it away and you’ll learn how to build this confidence in your own student’s practice (and maybe in your own practice too!)

❋ Choice, Agency & Support

You’ll gain the knowledge you need to support your own students, create your own classes, workshops & Retreats and run a heart-led sustainable business, in a safe and supportive space, without exhausting yourself.

Our Yoga Teaching Philosophy

Over the space of 6 months, you’ll learn how to teach breath-led, choice-based Hatha Yoga classes that focus on supporting real-life women in their busy lives. The training covers these 5 main pillars in flexible modules, that fit around your life, job and family:

  • You’ll be diving into the history of Yoga, it’s Philosophy and studying ancient texts to understand how these practices are still relevant today, in our busy modern lives, on and off the mat.

  • Our signature modules! You’ll learn how to teach beyond the “ideal Yoga body” adapting and modifying Yoga poses, using empowering and positive language, visual & verbal cues & props and introducing your students to Pranayama and Meditation to calm their busy minds.

  • Learn how to weave Yoga philosophy into your classes to support your students who are suffering from modern problems due to their busy lives, such as overwhelm, stress and lack Of time. You’ll learn how Yoga can support healthy ageing and how to confidently teach to older beginners.

  • In these modules you’ll learn how to manage your classes professionally, how to create a safe and warm environment for your students and ethical teaching practices, so that your classes are inclusive & accessible.

  • In these modules I’ll be sharing everything I’ve learnt running my own business, from finding your niche, to sales and marketing and running Retreats. Going far beyond “how to teach a class”, you’ll learn how to actually run a business that feels aligned and teach in a way that feels sustainable for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • There’s really no such thing as being “good” at Yoga. All I ask is that you have a regular practice of 2 or more years, are open learning new things and really passionate about helping others feel good!

  • All the live online sessions will be recorded, so you will be able to watch a replay if you miss a session. 100% attendance is required at the in-person weekends in order to pass the course, but I understand things come up sometimes, so this will be discussed with the individual on a case-by-case basis.

  • You can’t fall behind on this course! The modules are all flexible and can be taken in any order, you’ll pass the course after your final assessment and all the modules have been completed. This course is designed specifically with real life in mind, some weeks you’ll get loads done and other weeks your feet won’t touch the ground! That’s life and this course is here to support that, rather than feel like a burden for you.

  • Each module has a task for you to complete, to show your understanding of that topic. You’ll also need to pass your Anatomy & Physiology module, undertake a certain number of classes, and pass your final teaching assessment. I know this sounds like a lot right now, but the course will guide you gently through each stage, so it won’t feel overwhelming!

  • In this methodology we teach how to visually and verbally cue poses, because this is what we use 99% of the time, but you will learn some basic physical adjustments.

We focus on how a pose feels rather than how it looks and giving our students the agency and choice in their own bodies. So if a student is feeling a pose but it doesn’t look like the “perfect” alignment in our head, should we adjust this person physically?

On the rare occasion when a physical adjustment is needed, consent is always required and adjustments are made in a gentle and sensitive way, but only after visual and verbal cues have been offered and/or the students asks for an assist.

  • You’ll be able to get insurance and start teaching Yoga as soon as you have been certified. Where totally depends on you, but you could teach in gyms, studios or start your own classes in community spaces.

  • Yes! This course is fully accredited, so you can feel safe knowing that the training meets the highest levels of accreditation in the UK and will set you up to teach classes and run your business.
